HAPPY HALLOWEEN

It has arrived. That day when you can be anyone you want - a witch, a princess, batman or even a goblin. I loved Halloween as a kid. I miss dressing up! I can't wait until I have a classroom again and I can dress up if my school allows it!
I am looking forward to giving out candy and seeing all the kidos! It is always fun to see how they look. I like the creative homemade costumes. I have been watching the Today show and enjoying all the Halloween fun! It is nice that I have been able to have the day off the past few years to enjoy it!
DH took the day off and we are going to go out for lunch. It will be a nice treat. It is a wonderful sunny Fall day and perfect for Halloween. My parents and brother are going to a Halloween party. Last week my brother went to an Italian themed party. He went as a fish wrapped in newspaper. How hilarious is that? My SIL went as a plate of pasta! Now that is what I call creative!
Hope everyone has a spooktacular Halloween!
BOO!

Hump Day... A Positive Part Two

My last post was such a vent that I decided I needed a part two with some happy thoughts!

What I love about October:

* Halloween and seeing the cute kids at my door
* Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (I get to treat myself this weekend)
* My New Window Treatment - Who knew I would like cranberry?
* Having free time to read my Redbook, my favorite blogs, or just surf the web
* DH doing chores while I work my part time job
* My part time job
* Having family invite me over for dinner when I don't feel like cooking
* The colors of the leaves
* My new cosy coat

Life is good!!

Hump Day....Random Thoughts

I cannot believe today is October 29th. Where the heck did October go? This is my favorite time of the year and it is going too fast!

I was suppose to teach this morning and the job was cancelled. I hate when that happens. I especially hate it when I have a busy week of appointments that interfere with me subbing in the first place. Plus, Friday is Halloween and it is a half day. I do not expect to work which eliminates yet another day I could make money!

I am feeling frustrated with my teaching situation. I cannot understand why I still do not have a full time job. I am a good teacher. I am a hard worker ! I have great letters of recommendation from my previous jobs. Sometimes I feel like something is wrong with me.

DH and I went to clean our floor the other day after we had removed the rug. There are these little black spots left from the carpet pad. We tried removing them and they would not come up. We scrubbed and scrubbed. We tried a few different ways. The one thing that worked - Magic erasure - pulled up the stain too. I was SO ANNOYED. I am at a loss now as what to do. The floor looks amazing except for these dark marks left from the rug. Eventually we will refinish the floor, but how to clean up these sticky black marks is beyond both of us........ GRRR!

OK... My random thoughts were more of vents. At least I feel better!

Home Improvement Continues

On Wednesday, the DH and I both took the day off to WORK on our living room. We were busy, busy making it more modern. We said goodbye to our 1970's orange carpet and our vertical blinds. It was a sad, sad farewell! LOL. We said hello to the hardwood floors underneath and a new window treatment!

After I had my morning coffee, I began my day at 8:30! I started with painting the wall around the front window. Then DH and I began removing the carpet around 12:00. It was quite yucky and thankfully we were wearing masks! Then DH worked on removing the wood planks around the walls while I pulled up those darn staples. As he continued, I put up the second coat of paint. This took us until 4:00. He left me to go work on he daily reports for work while I cleaned up and swept the floor about 6 times.

We took a break to go out to dinner for some yummy pasta. Then we returned home and put up the new curtain rod with these pretty cranberry thermal curtains. Today, we added sheers in the middle pane. It looks so nice. I just LOVE it!

Tomorrow we are going to scrub the floor and make it shiny! Now comes the search for two new area rugs! ( The carpet was in the dining room, too. This will take some time considering the DH and I have opposite tastes when it comes to decorating. LOL. Isn't that usually the case with all married couples? We also plan to have the floors refinished!

AHHH... Here's to home improvement!

Football Frustration

I have a football rivalry with my brother. He loves the Oakland Raiders. I DO NOT! I am a NY fan through and through. Today the Raiders played the Jets!! It was a nail biter!

My brother and I were sending text messages back and forth during the game. It was neck and neck during the 4th quarter! The Jets had about 10 seconds to go for it. They kicked the field goal and missed it. OH NO... but wait, the coach called a time out before the kick and the Jets get another try! The make the second kick and the game goes into OT!

This was a long overtime. The sportscasters start talking about how it may end in OT. Then the Raiders get the ball and they make it to kicking range. I watch with tears in my eyes as the Raiders win their first game of the season! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!

My poor Jets are defeated. I am defeated too! Hey, at least I can say.... GO BILLS !!!!

BUSY, BUSY

Today I did not work. Well, I guess I should say that I did not leave my house and drive to work. I did, however, work my tail off at home!!

I love home improvement!! I do not know if it is from watching all that HGTV or growing up in a house where my Dad had a project every year! Maybe it is a combination of both! I think it is my genes. I have become a pretty good painter. I love to paint the rooms in our house. I will have painted almost every room when I finish my latest project.

I painted today and I did some other projects too. I just love how it looks and I am not even done. After I finish painting, the DH and I will put up a new curtain rod and some thermal insulated drapes. We are hoping it will make the whole room more cozy. We are also going to pull up the rug. It is from the 70's. I guess orange shag was hip in the 70's. I swear it is the same rug my Mom had in her living room when I was a kid! I will have to take a photo of it before it goes to rug heaven!

Here is to home improvement...
Paint: 34.00
Hammer: 6.50
Paintbrush: 2.50
Spackle: 4.99
Sitting back to enjoy the fruits of my labor: PRICELESS

Happiness Is...........

My DH loves to laugh at me because he says I get overly excited about the simple things in life. He said I should make a post about it. This came about while we were driving to Lowe's and I was laughing about something totally random!

Happiness is....
  • Puppies
  • Coffee (Usually a Starbucks)
  • Shoes
  • Student's laughter
  • Books
  • Pasta
  • Naps
  • Sunshine
  • Fall

I am sure there is more, but as DH was driving he said "Puppies and Shoes and Coffee." They are my top 3 besides DH, Family, & Friends!

Here is to whatever makes you happy and lets you laugh with utter abandonment!

Beautiful Fall Day !

Here is a perfect example of why I love Fall! The colors of the leaves off in the distance as we drive to a Fall Festival. I wish this picture was more clear. I love the red leaves scattered throughout the sky as I travel along the highway!

I went to a Fall Festival today with the DH, Mom & StepDad. There were crafts, food, music, and tasty beverages. Plus it was so sunny and warm! I love the smells of the kettle corn and the warm apple cider. I REALLY enjoy people watching!! It can be very entertaining! We had a nice time and I took a few pictures. I enjoyed the crafts, but did not make a purchase. I already have more crafts than I will ever need !!

I wish I could have taken more pictures of the leaves. Before I know it the leaves will be falling and the air will be more crisp! This is my favorite time of year and it always goes by too fast!!

Working Gal... That's Me!

I have had such a busy week!!

On Monday morning I was called to sub in a grade 2 classroom. Lately, I have been sticking to grades 2-4. These are the students I enjoy teaching the best. Normally, I do not like to take AM calls. The raise my stress level and I feel anxious all day! I really need the work, so I took the job!

I arrived to the classroom to discover the teacher's planbook had two huge gaps. This has happened to me a few times before ans I usually just go with the flow. The kids were pretty nice and their was another classroom assistant in the room which is always a HUGE help! Around 2:00, the secretary called and asked if I could come back tomorrow. I then spoke to the teacher and I discovered she had thrown her back out.

I have been in the classroom the whole week. I have discovered that I could teach grade 2 if I had a classroom of that age level. It is true that I prefer grades 4-6, but it is nice to know that my skills do extend a little lower. I have enjoyed being in the same school all week and seeing the same kids!

I REALLY DO MISS TEACHING FULL TIME !!
I must say I am so very tired tonight. I have had other errands and family stuff going on this week. I still am trying to get myself to the gym at least three times a week and I also am really trying to count my calories every day. I have WORKED for 7 days straight between both jobs. I will be happy when it is Sunday and I have a day of for some FUN!

Weekends Fly By .... When I Work All Three Days!

I spent more time at work than I did at home this weekend. I am glad I have Sunday night to relax, watch a little t.v. and surf the web!

It was busy at the store so my work shifts went pretty fast. I do feel like I have not seen or spoken to any friends or even the husband. He jokes with me about how he enjoys the quiet. LOL I did not know I was so darn noisy!

Friday I worked in a music classroom and the kids were hilarious. They danced and they pretended to be different animals. We also did the freeze dance and the hokey pokey! It is funny to see a first grader try and do the hokey pokey when he has no clue which leg is "right" or "left." These types of sub jobs are the ones I love the most! The ones where the kids love the class and it breezes along!

Here's hoping I have good subbing days this week!

Fall Flying By..............

WOW... OCTOBER Already !!!!!!!

I cannot believe how quickly the last month flew! I was very busy! I worked on my Fall garden. I visited with friends I have not seen in a few months. I worked a whole month at my new job. (Still Loving It !!) I watched some good football! My shows new fall season started.

I just love the Fall! It smells go good. I can go to the market to buy fresh homegrown apples and apple cider. I can go to Starbucks for a pumpkin spice latte. I smell the wonder fires people have in my neighborhood. Some of my fondest memories have happened in Fall. I just wish it did not go by so darn quick!!
